COUNTY COUNCIL.

The County Council met yesterday.| Present, Crs. Clark (chairman), Tuohy, Hepburn: Murphy, Gray, and Wethered.

Accounts were passed as follows:—B. Brooking £3 15s, H. Hamblett £1 16s, A. Muir £6 17s 31, Sundries £2 4s, Glover and Steele £35, P. McLoughlin £5O, G. Moore £8 2s, B. Knox £lO9, W. O. Skeet £44 13a 3d, Clayton and Sawyer £6 19s, T. Corcoran £l5O, D. Malone £7l 10s, M. McLeod £9, D. Quinn £5 10s, Doleman and Hicks £2O, Grayham and Nook £6 13s, T. O’Donnell £3, W. Stephenson £l, Law stamps £lO, Te Arai Road Board £92, Waikohu Road Board £lOO, Waimata Road Board £BO, Patutahi Road Board £l2 12s. It was decided to apply to the Government Surveyor for a warrant to authorise the County Engineer to survey the Wairoa road, should that department not have a surveyor at liberty to do the work, and also to write to Mr Knowles, asking him not to fence off road pending the survey. Mr Cooper, Tiniroto, wrote asking the Council to appoint him poundkeeper in that district.—Agreed to. A circular was received from the Hawke’s Bay County Council asking for the cooperation of the Council in making native lands rateable.—Decided to draw Mr Kelly’s attention to the matter. The Survey Office wrote giving permission to the Council to close the Arakihi road. Tn regard to a letter reserved from the Police office, re collection of dog tax, it was agreed to consider the matter next year. It was decided to reply to the Wairoa County-Council rt the cutting of the bush on Mahia road, that the Council could not do the work, as the survey was unfinished. The Engineer stated that Mr Knox was behind time with the contract for stone, and it would take fully 30 days to complete the work, and in consequence of this much damage was being done te the roads. —The Chairman said the Road Board suffered much loss through these contracts, and it would not repay the Council if the whole of the bond money was deducted.—Agreed to let contract go on, as the time was so short, The Clerk was instructed to write to the Waiapu County Council, asking for payment of the amount due to the County,
