Waerenga-o-kuri Notes.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Waerenga-o-kuri, May 20. That this district is prospering is beyond a doubt, for look where you will, improvements are to be seen going on, double furrow ploughs are at work on both sides of the road, and four of tbe residences have been improved and greatly enlarged, while the settlers at the far end of this district—now that wheeled traffic is an established thing—are building houses. Three are in course of erection, and on tbe three adjoining holdings. The house farthest away from town is to be the largest, and is under the control of Mr Robb, who, with his army of assistants, is doing the very beat to have it finished in contract time.

By the returns from the freezing works I hear that the wethers from one station here “ topped the market.” That is saying a great deal for the district, which a very few years ago was altogether uninhabited. The School Committee of Messrs Mossman, Jex-Blake, Mcßeth, A. Peach, and Watt, met and, appointed the first and last named as chairman and secretary respectively. A deal of business was transacted, The surroundings of the school are at last to be beautified by planting, fencing, etc. In addition to Mr Wall doing his half of the fencing round the 15 acres of school ground, he very generously offered wire for the remaining half. In the same spirit Mr William Morrice has promised fencing posts. It is needless to say that both offers were accepted with thanks. An acre is to be ploughed, and some ornamental trees to be planted. A Visiting Committee was appointed, and monthly meetings of the general Committee are to be held,
