Phonographic Society.

The annual meeting of the Gisborne Phonographic was held on Saturday night, only one member being absent. The report showed that the Society was in a good position financially, bnt that it required energising; one or two enthusiastic members had left the district, others had not the necessary time to spare, and some had gqt to a stage that made them confident that they needed only casual practice, but a new and promising spirit seemed recently to have been aroused, The retiring President (H. T. Jones) proposed Mr Wilkinson to the position, considering that it should not be created a sort of monopoly. Mr Wilkinson was then unanimously elected, and Mr A< DeCosta had the like compliment as Secretary and Editor of the Magazine, Mr Param being elected sub-Edltor ; the Committeemen elected were Messrs Jones and Bobinson ; Mr D. DeCosta was again appointed Librarian, and Mr F. Drummond Auditor. The thanks cf the Society were tendered to Mr Maude, who had generously allowed the Society the free use of a comfortable room. Mr How Chow having taken over the promises, members thought that on any terms it would not suit them to continue tn thejf old quarters.
