COUNTY COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the above was held yesterday afternoon. Present : Crs Clark (Chairman), Gray, Tuohy, Hepburn and Orr. The Clerk read an opinion which he had received from Mr Jones, eollci or, concerning the form of rate summonses, Mr Jones wee of opinion that the present form wss sufficient, but slightly amended it, so thit there could be no objection taken as in the caee heard before Cap’sin Tuok<r. Xn rep’y to the Chairman the Clerk saiu the old form used had always satisfled the Resident Magistrate. Cr Gray did not think the form should ba altered. The Chairman : Supposing Captain Tucker is on the bench again ? It seems to me there is something wrong whtn the R.M, took no exception to a form and yet a J.P. threw it out as faulty. In reply io Cr Hepburn, Mr Warren said the form had been used for three years. CounoiHorg thought if they made altera'ions something else in the form might be objected to. Mr Warren said that the amendment proposed by the solicitor was to give additional par. tioulars—there could be no objection to that; Mr Jones considered the form good as it was, but the additional particulars would get over any objection. The Chairman said in that case it would be as well to make the amendment in the form, which was agreed to. The Chairman said it was very satisfactory for them to gain the case against Mr Barker. Cr Tuohy said it was very gratifying. The Engineer, in his report, mentioned that it would be necessary to form about 12 chains of the old Ferry road. He stated that the Waipaoa river was radidly cutting into the Kaiana block, and unless some steps were taken immediately to turn the course of the river it would in a short time run round by the Muriwai, In regard to the encroachment of the Waiapoa river the Council decided not to take any action in tiie matter.
