FOOTBALL.
From the form displayed in the Taran-ganui-Gisborne match on Saturday it is con sidered the former will make a good stand against the Pirates next Saturday, especially with the inclusion of Josephs and Kingi in the local team. Below is a description of the players:— Wade, full-back, is rather light, but is good at stopping rushes and tackles well, though he is rather weak in his kicking. Three-quarters— Matthews is a smart little player, runs and kicks well, tackles fairly well, and starts the passing at times; Kingi is an old Te Aute player, strong runner, good kick, dribbles well, and can collar in fair style; Poynter is a novice at the game, yet is a good kick and follows up well, but is weak in the fine points. Half-back—Burns is light, but knows the game, fairly fast, collars and kicks well ; Hepburn is a good wing forward, but is weak behind, speed being his forte, with plenty of dash. The forwards are a good even set of men, with plenty of weight and dash, but lack combination, too great a desire to score being their fault and sacrificing the game very often. Forest is the pick, hae plenty of weight, which he usee to advantage, and ie very servioable on the line, his reach being very useful. Robinson (the Captain), another heavy forward, plays the game from start to finish, and ie good all round. Josephs was one of the Hawke’s Bay reps, last year, and therefore it will be unnecessary to say any more. Nisbet is another dashing forward, and can elay with anyone in the team; should pass more, however, and is apt to run over the ball, DeCosta is a fast forward, playing brilliantly at times, and useful in a dribbling rush. Sherriff is one of the good little players, always on the ball and a sure tackler, and the same can be said of Crawford. Leslie is another light forward, out of form at present, but a useful man, and does a lot of work for his side.
