A Sad Tale.

When the mail steamer Alameda came in from Sydney to-day, it was reported that on the passage across a young naval Lieutenant named Philip Hodges, threw himself out of one of the stern ports, and thus committed suicide. Nothing could be seen of I him, but even if there had been there was such a high sea running that nothing could be done to save him. The story is a rather pitiful one. Hodges, who is only thirty served on H.'M. S, Hyacinth and Ringdove, but was recently cashiered, and when ho destroyed himself wu bound to America ns A steerage passenger.
