POLITICAL GOSSIP.
LFEOM oua OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, last night. The Premier has been interviewed by Messrs Kelly and Carroll, M.H.R’s, and Mr Arthur, ex-member for the East Coast, in support of the claims of the Gisborne Harbor Board, which desires Government to advance £lO,OOO in order to complete the works upon the scheme of Mr O’Connor (late Marine Engineer), which provides for a small harbor with 21 feet of water. The Premier informed the deputation that he had no power to make advance asked for, and suggested that the Gisborne people should approach the House by petition. 1 he pension recommended to be given to Mr Hamerton is to be computed upon the services rendered before he became Public Trustee. The Bank of New Zealand Bill Committee met to-day. A cablegram was read from the Agent-General, stating that the requirements of the law had been complied with. This disposes of the objection previously raised by Mr Hutchison, and the Bill will be reported with trifling amendments. Mr Macarthur is still very unwell, and it is exceedingly doubtful if he will be able to resume his Parliamentary duties this session.
