Charitable Aid Board.
An ordinary meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held on Thursday, there being present—Messrs Townley (Chairman), Joyce, Harding, Hepburn, and Taylor. The monthly report showed that 13 adults and 10 children were in receipt of relief, and that one inmate had been discharged from the Qld Men’s Home. The Treasurer reported a qredjt balance of £l5B 8s 74. Accounts for the month amounting to £55 Is lid were passed for payment, also £6O requisition to the Hospital Trustees, and £25 for maintenance of children at tbs Parnell Orphanage IJomo. In regard to a circular received froqi the settlers at Hsaiy Moqnt, Otago, asking that Parliament make an enquiry into the whole system cf charitable aid in the colony, it was decided to write to Mr Kelly re, questing to advocate an improved system of relit f, eo that the cost to the ratepayers mjght be considerably reduced. A oirular was also received from the Otago Benevolent Institution rs Lunatics' Act Amend, ment Bid.
