UNNECESSARY DELAY.
Oyß Waiomatatini correspondent touches oa a sore point in his letter this morning, in the course of which he mentions that a person could go tg England and back in the time that it takes to get a reply from Wellington to any message sent from Waiomatatini, a settlement which at the outside ought to be within a fortnight or three weeks’ communication with Wellington. If the work of the Land Courts is hampered in the way stated there can b@ no wonder that that branch of the public Service has so long been assailed for the procrastination which has seemed inseparable from it. On this matter being properly represented to the Hon. Mr Cadman, Native Minister, from tb‘6 practical way in which he has dealt with other matters called to his notice, there is reason to believe that he will soon find a remedy. Blame on account of the delay mentioned is usually placed upon the .fudge of any special Court that is referred to, but judging by the words of our correspondent it is the central office that is in this case the brake on the wheel of progress. The responsibility therefore rests directly upon the Native Minister, who, being on the spot, can easily stir up the understrappers to that activity which the interest of the public demartdsi.
