Be just and fear not; Let all the ends thou aim’st at be thy country's, Thy God’s, and truth’s.;
The painful scene that has occurred in the House of Representatives must be humiliating to people and representatives alike. It is a delicate thing to say upon what shoulders the blame should fall when quarrels of the kind arise. Lack of informatian may place one at as great a disadvantage in judging as a precipitate partisan on the spot. What we do know, though, is that the party majority of the Government has been used in a case where technicalities should have been brushed aside and the fullest investigation courted. One may hold widely diverse political views to those of Mr Bryce, and yet feel sympathy with him in this matter. The Government requires plain talk from its friends, or these personal quarrels will shatter all its opportunities of service to the country.
