At the Mutual Improvement Society la g t Mr F. Stafford read an essay on “ Socialism.’’ The essay was interesting and instructive, and created a great deal of discussion. The Rev. Mr Sinclair presided, and it was announced that that gentleman would lecture on “ Darkest Africa ” next Monday.
Mr Chafes Adair, who has been as-istant for a coneiderab’e time on the Gisborne branch of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, leaves on Friday next for Wellington, having received an appointment in the D.I 0. drapery establishment in that city, Mr Adair is a steady and capable yourg man who has a wide circle of friends to wish him success in bis new sphere. The advancement is as deserving as it is popular.
