Annual Hospital Sports.

A public meeting was held in the Courthouse last night to arrange the preliminaries for the annual Hospital Sports on St. Andrew’s Day. The number of other meetings pre vented the usual large attendance, but a business like spirit was shown in making the arrangements. Mr C. C. Lucas occupied the ohair. The Secretary stated that the net result of last year's sports (including subsidy) was about £l3O. It was resolved to hold the sports as usual, at the Park grounds. The following officers were appointed :— Patrons—The Mayor and Chairmen of local bodies! Judges—Messrs W. I?. Crawford, R, Watson, C. C. Lucas, Akroyd, and Nolan ; Starter—Captain Winter; Referee—Mr C. Evans ! Handicappers—Messrs Primrose, Nisbett, and Fraser; Treasurer—Mr Cole man s Secretaries —Messrs McKay and R N. Jones ; General Committee —Hospital Trustees, the officers, and Messrs Joyce, A. Rees, Colebourne, Quigley, Milne, C. F, Lewis, T. Morrison , Garrett, G, Johnstone, G Henderson, Maynard, and Miller. Sub-Committees were appointed and the old programme gone through. The Champion race was replaced by a Maori raoe, and the event of three miles was made twice round the course. In no case is the money prigs to be reduced.
