V.R.O. SPRING MEETING, Melbourne, Oct. 16. Leading writers make selections in regard to the Caulfield Cup:—“ Bibbleden,” in the Australasian, tips Forest King or Bungebah to win, with Glenloth and Clonard next. "Augur,” in the same paper, takes Gresford and Gnaroo towin, with Greygown, Dillon, or Forest King to fill the places. “ Asmodeus,” in the Leader, goes for Glenloth, Dillon, and Bungebah, in that order. " Caspian,” in the Weekly Times, selects Greygown, Bungebah, and Glenloth. with preference for the former. “ Sterling,” in the Sportsman, casts his yote for Glenloth and Bungebah, while "Free Lance,” in the same paper, chooses Forest King, Greygown, and Bungebah in that order, and " Seer ” places Clonard, Glenloth, and Dillon in the order named. Forest King is being steadily backed at 100 to 12 for the Caulfield Cup, and Ethelbert has been scratched. Carbine has advanced to 100 to 11 for the Melbourne Cup, and Stromboli to 4 to 1 for the Derby. Dunkdin, last night. The Dunedin Jockey Club has decided to pay the totalisator tax out of the ten per cent, commission. The Hon. G. McLean, Messrs H. Driver, and. J. Haslett were appointed delegates to the Metropolitan Club’s conference, and instructed to oppose the creation of a New Zealand Jockey Club.
