The Wellington citizens are forming a League to counteract Auckland influence for the Stratford railway route. The wife of Mr McPherson, hotelkeeper at Balfour, Otago, has died suddenly of apoplexy. The daughter of Sir R. S. Hawkins, solicitor, shot herself in the Botanical Gardens, Wellington, this afternoon. A ten roomed housq at New Plymouth, occupied by Mr Coker, of Collier and Co, and owned by Judge Rawson, Invercargill, was burned down this morning The imports for the quarter ended 80th September are valued at £1,944,018, against £1,753,799 for the corresponding quarter of 1890 The exports for the quarter were £1,067,589, against £1,528,514 for the same quarter last year.
