AERIAL PAGEANT
IMPORTANT HASTINGS EVENT FIXED FOR SATURDAY. APRIL 5. In connection with the Aerial Pageant to be held in Hastings on April 5, a joint meeting of the Programme. Entertainment and Ground Committee of the Hawke’s Bay Aero Club was held last night in the Chamber of Commerce rooms. Hastings. The chairman, Captain T. W. White, presided, and the following programme was adopted:— 11.30 a.m.: Formation Flight by “A” pilots on the morning of the pageant, the route to be Hastings, Havelock North, Clive. Napier, Taradale, Hastings, and thence back to the aerodrome. 1.30 p.m.: The arrival of the club’s patron by air and reception of the visitors. 1.45 p.m.: Taxi fly past and landing competition. 2 p.m. : Lady pilots' competition, figure of eight at 600 feet, and landing. 2.20 p.m. : Car bombing competition. 2.50 p.m. : All transport race. 3.10 p.m. : Slow race. 3.30 p.m. : Formation flying. 3.35 p.m. : Exhibition flying. 3.50 p.m. : N.Z. Light Aeroplane Blue Ribbon 4.15 p.m. : “A” pilots’ competition. 4.45 p.m. : Height-guessing competition. It is anticipated that 20 machines will be present at the pageant. GENERAL ARRANGEMENTS. Invitations, enclosing a copy of the programme, with an entry form attached, are to be sent to all clubs, entries closing at 8 p.m. on March 29. Invitations are to be sent to all local bodies in the East Coast Aviation District, the Minister of Defence, the General Officer Commanding the Air Forces, and to the District Commandant and all the officers of the Hawke's Bay East Coast Aero Club. Tickets to be marked complimentary and to be shown at the gates. Admission charges to be as follow: Adults 2s; grandstand, adults 2s, children under 16 1s; grandstand, children 1s ; cars 2s. Officials for the handling and servicing of the aircraft:—Messrs Dysart, G. Nichols, and Captain J. Fellow, with Captain Fowler in charge The control and running of events committee : — Captains Chambers, Gould, Kite, White, Flying Officer Olson, and Messrs Marshall Gordon, Hamish Armstrong, and Harold Beamish. Announcers on the ground: Messrs C. E. Smith and Brian Boys. Call stewards: —Messrs Dudley Newbigin and R. Golding. Result steward: Captain P. Nolan. Transport officer:—Mr E. N. Jordon. Starters: Mr Geo. Maddison and Captain Fowler. Judges: — Wing-Commander S. Grant Dalton and Captain H. E. Chambers. The handicappers shall be the starters and judges. Field stewards; Messrs R. Porter, Furness. W. Alexander, W. Hislop, and J W. Weymouth. Arrangements for the sale of shilling tickets for the altitude calculating competition, the prize to be £10, be left to Mr Newbigin. GROUNDS COMMITTEE. Resolutions in connection with the Grounds Committee were passed as follow:— Minister for Justice to be written to stating that as the club anticipate an attendance of 6000, an adequate number of police will be required to ensure public safety. The Hawke’s Bay County Council is to be asked to arrange (1) for the provision of inspectors to control the traffic between the hours of 12.30 p.m. and 5.30, and (2) to declare that part of the Maraekakaho road and Paki Paki to Bridge Pah road, adjacent to the aerodrome, a non-park-ing area between the hours of noon and 5 pm. The Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board is to be asked to provide an ambulance at the pageant, at which the club’s honorary doctor will be asked to be present. Car parking in the field: The Hastings Borough Council to be asked for the services of Inspector Dunnett and an assistant. Messrs R. Porter and F. R. Field to assist the inspectors. Gatekeepers: Mr Kessell to be in charge with the power to appoint assistants. Sale of programmes: Mr Hammond to be in charge. Messengers : The services of a limited number of Boy Scouts are to be arranged for. The next meeting of the joint committees will be held on March 15.
