SWIMMING
HERETAUNGA CLUB GRAND CARNIVAL TO BE HELD The usual weekly committee meeting of the above club was held last night. Mr. A. R. Mclvor being in the chair. The programme for the open carnival on February 19th. is as follows: —Boys’ Race, 50 yards ; Girls’ Race, 25 yards; Ladies’ Race, 50 yards; Open Handicap, 50 yards; Open Handicap. 100 yards; Open Plain Dive; Novelties (2); Teams Race and Diving Exhibition. In addition, the following special events, in which selected teams from Gisborne and Heretaunga Clubs only will take part, will be decided. This contest is for the Ferguson Cup at present held by Gisborne: 50 Yards Scratch Race; 50 Yards per man Teams Race, 4 per team; Diving, Polo Match. ' Both teams are reported to be training assiduously for this latter contest. The majority of the Hawke’s Bay provincial title holders will be competing and the quality of swimming will be the highest seen locally for years. Arrangements are now complete and everything points to a bumper house. HERETAUNGANS FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS The following team will represent Heretaunga at the Hawke’s Bay provincial championships next Monday and Tuesday:— Men’s Championship 50, 100, 220 yards, M. Clifton; 220 yards, F. Kelly; 50 yards, D. Graham. Intermediate Boys’ 100 yards, J. Heffernan. Intermediate Girls, 100 yards, Miss J. Hood. Junior Boys’ Championship. 50. 100 and 150 yards, B. Wright; M. de Denne. Junior Girls’ Championship 25, 50 and 75 yards, M. Fryer, M. Hull. Intermediate Girls’ Breaststroke, 75 yards, M. Hull. Diving Championship, men’s, G. Geddis, C McKee; ladies’, Miss L. Hood, Miss C. Wallace. Swain Memorial Teams Race, 100 yards per man. 1 team. PROGRAMME FOR FRIDAY The following programme was decided on tor next Friday (Club night): Second Distance Ladies’ Club Championship, 75 yards. Second Distance Junior Club Championship, 100 yards. B Grade Handicap, 50 yards. Club Handicaps, 100 yards and 50 yards breaststroke. Boys’ Race, 25 yards; Girls’ Race, 25 yards; Ladies’ Race, 50 yards. Novelties: Candle Race and Ribbon Dive. Teams Race.
Swimmers are reminded that tomorrow is the closing date'for entries for the handicap events at the provincial championships and those who have not done so may leave their entries with Mr. Poppelwell. Entry fees must be paid at the same time.
