Miss Barbara Pinckney left Hastfags by this morning’s train for Wellington on a holiday visit.

Mr. George Henry Davies has been elected unopposed to the vacant position on the Havelock North Town Board.

Mr, G. Nicholson has been appointed sole selector for the Auckland Rugby Union for the 1930 peuon.

Mr. and . Mrs. P. F. Wall, of Hatuma, sail this evening from Wellington on route to the Homeland on a holiday tour.

Mr. K. 8. Williams, M.P. for the Bay of Plenty, is in a private hospital fa Auckland undergoing treatment for an injury to his knee.

Mr. W. H. Bickley. of the literary staff of the “Daily Telegraph,” Napier, has accepted a similar appointment with the Christchurch “Sun.”

Lieutenant I. H. N. Keith, assistant instructor to the Auckland Aero Club, has been appointed chief ingtructor to the New Plymouth Aero Plub.

Mr. J. Sharkay, stationmaster at Eastings, leaves on Monday for his Mutual holiday, returning on April 95th. Mr. P. Garlick, of the relieving staff, will be in charge of the station during his absence.

Mr. and Mrs. A. Wake have just Returned to Hastings after enjoying a three weeks' holiday tour of the North Island. They report having had a delightful holiday, camping •nd motoring, the weather being line all the time.

The Timaru Harbour Board yesterday appointed Mr. F. Metson secretary to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. C. C. Wightman. Mr Metson has been in the service of the board for over 2b years.

Capt. J. D. Hewitt, who recently made a non-stop flight from Dunedin to Auckland, expects to be present At the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club's pageant on Saturday next. He is flying his privatelyowned Moth. ZK—AAR.

Dr. Eckener was presented at Washington with the National Geographic Society’s special gold medal tor his Zeppelin world flight. Only ten other men have received the award in the last forty-two years. Colonel Lindbergh and Commander Byrd are included in the list.

The relatives of the late Mr. E. A. Goodger, who was a keen follower of Rugby, were last night accorded • vote of sympathy by members of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union. The president, Mr A. E. Renouf, paid a fine tribute to the great interest that Mr. Goodger had always taken fa sport, and Rugby in particular.

Mr. N. McKenzie, of Napier, was fast night re-elected sole selector by wie Hawke's Bay Rugby Union for the ensuing season. The president, Mr. A. E. Renouf. in paying tribute to Mr McKenzie s services, stated that he had brought Rugby in Hawke’s Bay up to the top of the Udder and had kept it at that standard for a number of years. He felt that the name of Norman MrKenize would continue to hold an honoured position in the field of Rugby.

Mr. W J. Wood, of Waipawa, Sb, at the annual meeting of the wke’s Bay Rugby Union last night, electee! president of that body for the ensuing year. Mr. N. McKenzie, in proposing Mr. Wood’s nomination, stated that he had long been associated with all branches of sport, more especially that of Rugby and the “sport of Kings.” Ho had for some time been president of th< Central Hawke’s Bay Suh-Union, tn which body he had been a decided acquisition. Mr Wood expressed nis pleasure at being elected to the position and said he would continue to do his best to further the interests of the game. Mr. Wood is the first president of the Union to come from outside Napier or Hastings
