HECTOR GRAY

BACK IN NEW ZEALAND.

AUSTRALIAN AUTHORITIES REFUSE LICENSE.

Auckland, April 7. The well-known horseman Hector Gray, who recently went to Sydney with the object of riding there if he got his license, returned to Auckland by the Niagara this morning. Gray said he made an application to the Australian Jockey Club, but this was not granted. There was no reason given to him as to why his application was refused. Ho had letters from prominent citizens and racing men in New Zealand, and was also willing to appear before the committee, but was not given an opportunity. Gray will reside in Auckland till after the Auckland Racing Club’s Easter meeting, and subsequently will take up his residence at Takanini. If started in the Easter Handicap, Pcgaway will be ridden by. Gray.
