CUSTOMS REVENUE
PAST YEAR’S FIGURES. Customs duties other than duties cn motor spirit and rubber tyres collected at Dominion ports during the year ended March 31, 1930, totalled £8,631,399, according to a report laid on the table of the House of Representatives on Thursday by the Prime Minister, Hon. G. W. Forbes. The total revenue collected by the Customs Department was £10,891,880. The cost of collection 'was £117,952, representing £1 Is 8d per cent. Petrol taxation yielded £1,028,894, other important items being: Excise duties on beer £620,313, on tobacco, enc. £244,841. and on spirits, £20,MJ6- tyre tax, £157,474; gold duty, L 10,261 ; export levy on meat, £35,267; dairy produce, £34,686; kauri gum. £l Q O7 ; honey. £586; brewery supervision ami hop-beer license fees El 128; warehouse license fees, 69723; Marine Department revenue through light dues totalled £83,337. Amounts collected at the principal ports were as follow:—Wellington, £3,703.368; Auckland. £2.974,977; Lyttelton, £1,477,482: Dunedin, £1,187,380; Napier £312,538; Invercargill £162.636: New Plymouth, £132 . Timaru, £121,673; Wanganui, £93,613.
