WEDDINGS

BARKER-CUSHING. Ths wedding was celebrated in St. Marks Church, Clive, on Wednesday, July 16. of Maria Amelia, eldest daughter of Air and Mrs Janies Cushing, Clive, to Edward Victor, youngest son of Mrs E. Barker, Pahiatua. The officiating minister was the Rev. Eccles McCutcheon. The church was decorated with ferns and greenery and rose pink stocks. Airs Lindsay Gordon played the organ for the service, which was fully choral The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a lovely gown of white satin moire appliqued with silver tissue. The shirred, scalloped bodice was ornamented with crystal, and the ankle-length skirt was scalloped, with an uneven hemline. A white tulle veil fell from a silver coronet and white satil shoes were worn. She carried a dainty shower bouquet of hot-house flowers and fern. There were two ’maids—Miss Nola Cushing the bride’s sister, and Miss May Nicol of Alarton. Their pretty frocks were of lotus rose georgette with vandyked ecru lace falling m an uneven line at the horn and a large taffetas bow at the hip. Their black capeline hats were relieved with appliques in pastel shades, and their shoes were of pink and silver tinsel Each carried a beautiful shower bouquet of hot-bouse flowers in tones of rose and sunset, and feathery ferns. The bridegroom’s present to each was a Morocco pouch hand-bag. The duties of best man were carried out by Air. Pat Cushing, and Mr. Douglas Cushing was groomsman. For the reception after the church ceremony, the Clive Hall was decorated with ferns and greenery and gaily coloured streamers, of which the predominating colour was pink. A huge white wedding bell was suspended over the bridal table and bowls of pink roses were placed along the tables. The bride’s mother received the guests in a smart frock of black crepe-de-chene and georgette, and a black felt hat with a diamante buckle. She carried a posy of violets. The bridegroom’s mother wore a chio costume of grey charmelaine, and a black hat of felt and satin, and carried a violet posy. When leaving for a car tour of the northern part of the island, the bride wore an attractive travelling suit of powder blub crope-de-chene, with a black hat and handsome black fur coat, the gift of the bridegroom. After the departure of the couple, dancing was indulged in till the early hours of the morning, music for which was supplied by Miss B. Cooper’s orchestra. SILVER WEDDING AT WAIPUKURAU The\-o was a large gathering of guests and friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. Clark, Porangahau road, Waipukurau, on Tuesday evening, on the occasion of the anniversary of their silver wedding. The house was specially arranged and decorated for the function and the large number of guests had a most enjoyable time and spoke eulogistically of the generous hospitality accorded them. There was dancing for the young people and cards for the elders, both forms of entertainment proving very popular. A sumptuous supper was provided, during which the usual toasts befitting the occasion were proposed and honoured. The Rev. A. C. McLean, M.A., proposed the toast of the bride and groom, amidst applause. The time passed all too quickly and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought to an appropriate close a memorably happy evening. The following were included among the guests :—Mesdaines T. Given, W.
