WINNING SIRES OF 1929-30 SEASON.

CHIEF RULER AND DAY COMET HEAD LIST

Following are statistics showing the amounts, £5OOO and over, credited to the various sires with progeny racing in the Dominion. The list is from Aufcust 1, 1929, to July 31st, 1930. Tho figures wore compiled by the “New Zealand Referee.”

On Tuesday morning at Te Rapa, Arch Eagle went over a couple of hurdles with plenty of confidence. * • • The first foal of the season nt Sir Charles .Clifford’s Stonyhurst stud has made its appearance in the shape of a filly by Day Comet from Owlscombe, by Autumnus from Glenowlet. About half a dozen yearlings by Day Comet will be in the batch to be sent down from Stonyhurst in the autumn. * • * The three-year-old Owlsflight, by The Ace from Owlscombe, has been on the easy list for a few days, suffering from a cold, and he may have to forfeit his engagements next week at Riccarton. He is a promising young horse, but he may require some racing before he is seen at his best. The Ashburton sportsman Mr. E. B. Newton has decided to have his three-year-old colt Nightcap, by Night Raid from Dutch Courage, trained at Riccarton, and A. E. Wormaid will have charge of his preparation in future. He has been a member of J. J. Lewis’ team at Ashburton for some time, and he has the reputation of being a useful galloper, while ho was greatly admired when he accompanied Limerick in a sprint at the last meeting at Ashburton.
