TWO POLITICAL DOGS.
— , — « Lord Bury, in an amusing speech which he delivered at the great Conser* vative meeting in Birmingham recently, compared the two great political parties in England to two dogs, and said . — • If you wish to know what the Conservative dog i< going to do you tnnst listen to its b»rk ; but if you want to know what the Liberal dog is g'ing to do you must look at its tail and see which way it iwagging' Carrying the simile still further, the noble lord ssid : — ' Y<.u all remembpr the o'd riddle, ' Why does a do? wag his tail P' and the answer, ' Bpesm-e the tail can't wag the dog ;' but, sail he, 1 fhis answer does not suit the conditions of the Liberal dog, because the tail dees wag the dog very violently, only, fortunately, there are several tails, and (hey wag different ways. There is the 17<tdicnl tail, the Nonconformist tail, the Eussian fail, &<*.; and the result of all these forces tnoying in contrary direction is a total inaction of the animal."
