MR BRIGHT ON EMIGRATION.
I — , 0 Writing from Eichdaie to a correspondent, in Sheffield, Mr Bright says ; — ' J tliink trade in this country will revive, and if the revi al in ihe United Stitesis followed by good harvests lie^e we sh--ill have a!! o ir industries restored to activity and health. As to emigration, it is a question on which it is hardly snfp to £i?e advice, so much depends on the emigrant, on his health, his character, liia means and family. Fur workers i
iron atfd in all the meJaN the States are a better field than aoy of our colonies, as (hey offer a greater anJ more varied field o f employment. For men c -nnecfed with the land, as farmers or laborers Canada and the States are much the same except tha* in the north the winter is so severe but this is moderated as you go south. I hear good accounts of Nebraska and Colorado and there is room 'or millions. New Zealand has a fine dimate. much superior to that of North Unerica but the dis'ance is great and cost of going consequently greater. I should say tint a young man, healthy, activp, steady and sensible raiy do well and a man with a family may do well for h's children though he may have 'o face some r^ugh woik and hardship. With a revival in \me--ieaand better seasons and harvests in Tndia, our prospects are , better hut we must have good harvests here bofore we see our home trade active and prosperous.
