HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
♦ The firs! meeting of tho new Hospital Committee whs held at Mr M'Gaffln's office on Monday evening last. Present : Messrs Guliine (in the chair) Til brook, Wis?, Patterson, Caples v Aiken, J Coben, Connolly, Wf»Uaee, and Collings. The minutes of the last meeting were rearl and confirmed. It was decided to defer the appointment of auoitor. A discussion here took place respecting tho salajy of the secretary — one or two ol the membprs of the committee being in favor o f redwing the amount at pre« «*cnt paid, owing to the falling off in the revenue of tbe institution. Mr >.T'Giffin in answer to a question said, he fully recognised the fact ihat the district was now .much poorer than whpn the salary was first fixed in Mr M'Lean's time, but as tbe clerical work attached to the appointment had rather increased than diminished, and aa he could not but regard the present remuneration as already quite inadequate, it .would be inconsistent on his part to accept sny teduction. However, to meet tbe interests of the institution, if the c n mtniltee thought proj'pr to appoint Mr B'>vd bis -{Mr M'Gnifm'<) cWlr to the r>ffio» of •secretary, that gent'emnn wnuld no doubt accept i small reduction, nn'l thi* businp«s could be .carried on I y biia during ofEce hours as hitherto. H", Mr M'Gaffin, would also be prepared lo place his office at tbe use of tbe committee as hereto* fore. • Mr M'Gaffin's offer was accepted, and a vote of thanks eodially passed io Lira. Resolved that Mr J, M'Gaffio be ap»
