*— From a report received by the last mail, issued by tbe Central Conamitfep m Gr'aseow for raising and districting funds for tbe relief of the shareholders oP tlie City of Glasgow Bank wbo were ruined by the disastrous bankruptcy of that institution, detailing th» operations of the Committee up to the 314 December. 1879, it appears that the total amount of subscriptions initiated np fothat date from all sources was £389.428, of which flip amount paid was £262 230, leaving £127 197. which consists of portions £ suras originally subscribed by in«tal« merits, and to b<* paid hereafter. Of the £262 230 rcc-ivd, Scotland has paid £244,673 (indinive of £87 963, paid by Gliiserw out of £lfi2 £05 subscribed), and England has paid £12,114 Owing doubt, less, to the <?istress*>d condition of Ireland, no subscriptions ap; e<ir to have 'ipon received fr^m that quarter, Tie ■^iibseiiplion* from all o'ber parts — nnd wliin'i havn ;ilf bcf n nyid in cash — Ptnoutjt to £5 441, of which the Aus't-aJasiar. New Sonth Wnh"- *ontri»Mifed£9oo; South Australia £743 % New Z • ulnnd £545 • and Toowomlin, Q'leensbind £18. £9059 lias been tisid a<? grants by wa^ of annuities, £93,249 as donations and £90.750 has been disbursed to sufferers as temporary Joans, all or a great portion of which it is trusted will be renaid. A perns*! of the report shows that great care and circumspection are beine exercised in the distribution of the funds. It must, be gratifying to subscribers to know that notwithstanding depression in business and many calls upon them for local aid, tlHr sympntly for their distressed friends in Scotl'-icd has assumed the subs' antial form of money amounting to one-third of the subscriptions raised in all England, and to three* fou rt 'is of all the tmnr>y that lias been ru'sed throughout the world out* side of Great Brita ; n for tbe relief of shareholders of the mined B-ink.
