THE Inangahua Times. PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. FRIDAY, MAY 21, 1880.
Thh County Chairman yeste»day received the gratifying intelligence from tbe Government that tenders for tbe construction of tbe Inangahua^.bridge will be ready for advertising on Mon» day next. The following is tbe telegram received? — *' "Wellington. May 2Qth, 1880.— To Patrick Brennan, Eeq,, bounty Chairman, Reefton,— Tnangahua bridge will be ready for ■ advertising on Monday— so lam told. E. K. Oliver.'* All doubt ia therefore set at rest as to the intention of the Government in the matter so far. As far as we have yet seen the present Government have acted in perfectly good faith with the inhabitants here. They have indeed, considering the straitened condition of Colonial finance, treated the claims of the district with fair liberality. When here the Minister of Public Works certainly promised very little, but unless 'we are to regard the calling for tenders for additions to the Court House, 'and for the erection of the Inangahua -bridge, as an utterly bogus proceed, ling, he has in reality conceded, every- . thing that was asked on that occasion by the Reefton deputation, Tbe vote for tbe Maruia track has already been authorised; the subsidy to the Low Level Tunnel has been available for : some time ; tbe appointment of a .Resident Magistrate for the district fbas been decided upon, and the works .above referred 1© have been authorised. If we mistake not these formed the burden of tbe requests put to Mr when in Beefton, and should the Government carry ont these promises, as we believe fu% they will,, ihey will - have established a good claim to tlva gratitude and tbaoks of the community.
