♦ REUTER'B CABLEGRAMS. [PES PBESS AOBNCT] Melbot/bne, July 21. The political situation remains un*** changed, pending the meeting of Partia* ment to-mcrrow. It is understood thafc a meeting bes not taken place between Berry and Sir John O'Sbansssey, and much speculation continues to exist as to their probable relations in the Hou3C PREVENTIVE TREATMENT IN RKG \RD'TO THE TEETH OF THE RISING GENERATION. « In the little work "The Teetb and their Preservation " just published by Dr Mearns, of Brisbane, occu s the fol« I- wing :— It is of the utmost importance then that children should be fed with food lartjely ebargpd with the phosphates, which are of a bone- forming and teetb* feeling na'ure; and for that purpose we would recommend tbe us« of brown hrpad proper as before mentioned. Above a I, we would suggest the judicious use of o.itmcal as an article of diet during childhood. During this period tbere is a great demand for the earthy salts, which go to the development nnd growth of tbe bony structure. Now this article is rich in the lime salts and otber consituentg requisite for plenty of bone and muscle. It is very lamentable indeed to see so many children, apparently in the full bloom of health, plump, and fat, but with teeth of a fragile character, prone to decay, aad frequently so badly diseased before tbey are wellinto their teens as to be beyond the skill of the dentist to save. Now, how to remedy this state cf maU ters ought to be tbe highest end and aim of the dentist. J!he dentist's province is to point out what be may deem to be the tr ie remedy, and it 'rests with parents themselves, and those having the care of children, whether they will bestir thema selves and give due heed to tbese matters —remembering ever tbat if the teetb of tbe rising generation of tbis our fair and adopted land are to be of good structure and freo from disease— teeth tbat will withstand the wear and tear of mastification, and not succumb to decay from a passing attack of ill-bealth, but perform their proper functions during an ordinary lifetime— then the preventive treatment must commence in early infancy. Now to gain so desirable an object we appeal to mothers fco take up this question of preventive treatment ; and the best mode to give practical effect to sucb treatment is to pay strict attention to the dietary during chilihool; and, while duly appreciating the beneficial results to be ob« tamed from a properly selected dietary, we must also remind parents that tbey are to foster every means which will tend to produce robust health in their children, that the rava.-es of decayed (peth may be lessened in those who will by«and-by fill our places. Beans, oafc">ea', and barley contain about three times more of the bonesbuilding ani teeihxfeeding elements tban tbe beat l'ppf«tp»k.
