It was reported in town last night that Hungeiford's Hotel, Grey mouth, was yesterday dcetroved by fire. The tender of Mr John Quigley has, we believe, been accepted for t\e supply of squared timber for the Inangahua bridge. Mr Joseph Ivess is still in the newspaper--cultural line, having just budded another new venture at Ellesmcre, in Canterbury. Mr Ives9 has now founded so many journals in the Colony, that it may almost; be said that his papers whiten every community in New Zealand. The County Council will meet on Friday evening next, for the purpose of arranging a basi9 for recision of all maintenance contracts upon main roads throughout the County. Tbe members of the Public Works Com. mitte have communicated with the different contractors, and we believe that a mutually satisfactory settlement can be arrived at. We understand that the County Chairman communicated with the Government relative to obtaining an advance in anticipation of the Gold Duty and Goldfields Bevenue accruing to the County. The Government, however, expressed tbeir irabi'ity to accede to the request, but suggested that the matter might be accomplished through the Bank of the Council, upon the pvon,i3o of the Colonial Treasurer that the v venue as it accrued would bo paid into that institution.
