Mr Reader Wood has become Ihe most unsparing critic of the Ministers he professes to have confidence in. Annoyed at his retrenchment resolutions being set aside he declared his determination never more to attend a caucus, which he described as a trap. Replying, M.ijor Atkinson remarked that the kind of trap was not mentioned; whereupon from all parts of the House there came " Eat* trap." After this pleasant little incident the rough and shrewd John London produced a perfect tempest of cheers and laughter, by declaring that he would support whatever resolution would effect the greatest ratrenchment, no matter if the biggest More Pork in the House, and for that reason he should vote with Mr Wood. That wily gentleman did not seem to enjoy the '' divarsion " following on this Hibernian compliment. The vrell known writer, Mayne Reid, has been experimenting with Mexican seed potatoes in Herefordshire, England thereby doubling his crop and entirely escaping the blight, which has been so fatal to the English and Irish potato crop
