OUR MINES.

4 (FBOM oub mining bepobteb ) THE WEEK. Satubdat, May 7. The past week has brought nothing new to the surface in mining. Work is, however, being prosecuted in all parts of the district with jthe liveliest vigor. For some unaccountable reason the months of May, June, and July, are always slack ones in mining here, and unless, there* fore, the present quarter is to be an ex* ception, I do not see much prospect of material improvement until the coming of spring. By that time the Oriental, Catedonian, Inkerman, Golden Point, Low Level Tunnel Company, Hopeful, Phesoix, Result, and many other companies, now driving or sinking for definite points, should have something "to say for themselves. An immense amount of work is now going on throughout the field, and in view of this fact general prediction will be much astray if the coming summer does not find the Inangahua in a more prosperous condition than it has ever before been. The following are the yields for the past week :— WELCOME, 5850z3 of amalgam, from 90 tons of stone. GOLDEN FLEECE, 13Sozs. of amalgam, from 136 tons of stone (top plates.) UNITED ALPINE, 4450zs 161wt retorted gold (four weeks.) UNITED ALPINE (Ltbel.) The general cleaning up took place during the week, and resulted in the return of 445oz*i. 16dwt. of retorted gold. Tbe yield of gold, which during the early part of the crushing, was not quite up to the average, improved during the latter end, and the appearance of the stone i now exposed, will warrant the hope of , improved yields at the next cleaning up. j No dividend will be declared, as some of the money on hand will bo required for j erecting additional machinery, which will j be taken in hand at once, the road lead* ing to the battery having been completed I on Saturday,
