While the shipping is 428, as against {632 in 1878. TABABUA WRECK. The Daily Times correspondent tele* graphs from Wyndham tooday that six more bodies weta found on the beach this morning. These make a tota) of sixtyfour bodies recovered up to date. The friends of the late Captain Garrard intend to have the body exhumed and taken to Christchurch for burial. N icbaleff, the cook, was the only wit* ness examined at tjie Tararua enquiry tins morning. The body of Captain Garrard was buried at Otara on Monday afternoon. At the scene of the wreck of the Tararua, the body of R. W. Jones, late purser, was recovered yesterday afternoon and identified by his name written on his sliirt, and by papers found on the body. Four more bodies were washed ashore toaday, two of them being headless, and most fearful objects to behold ; indeed all the bodies now conrng ashore arc in a dreadful condition. There
has been no wreckage of any value come ashore as yet. The Tararua inquiry was continued to-day. The second mate said all on board were sober, and that Captain Garrard was a teetotaller. The Greymouth maiNbags have come ashore from the Tara rua wreck. | It has been found necessary to bury the bodies near the scene of the disater, on an acre to be known as the Tararua's acre. Two or three female bodies came ashore, but were unrecognisable ; also a Chinaman. The right hand and arm of a woman also came'ashore. At the inquiry the first officer gave it as bis opinion that the vessel had not run its distance, and the course was errone* ously altered. Id his opinion a Hue could not be taken from the vessel to the shore on account of the under (drift. Did sot believe the vessel was in danger, Nelson, May 14 Mr Levistan is likely to oppose Mr Richmond for Nelson city.
