On the morning of yesterday Hedley, Government surveyor, observed from the steamer Gleneig a remarkable eruption between Slipper and Mayor Island* situated at the northern end of the Bay of plenty. The water rose suddenly to a height of four feet, and spread over a circle sixty feet in diameter, throwing up sand, shell?, stones and mud. Tbe steamer was only about twenty yards outside the circle; The water kept boiU >ng for some time. iNfEBCAnoiLL, May 19. J.
