BOATMAN'S.
WELCOME. Since the last weekly report this com* pany have had a general cleaning up resulting in 1515dzs nearly of retorted gold. Comment on this magnificent yield from tbe mine is unnecessary as the last one is by no means an exceptionally prosperous crashing, but one of common average in this mine, preceded by many and to be followed by more from the same source if present appearance, all over the mine, are taken as a criterion of future prospects. The contractors for sinking the winze, connecting the inter* mediate and the low levels, finished tbe work in the early part of the week, and have been since then engaged in center* ing it up, so that it ie now ready for the purposes intended. In the low level the s'ze of the lode is still increasing in dimensions and gold is freely distributed. Serious inconvenience w*s caused during the week to tbe men working in the nvne through the -tapping into their workings of an old shaft in tbe Hopeful ground. The water having remained stagnant for years had created noxious gases, which escaped into tbe Welcome workings, and seriously incommoded several men to such extent as to render them unfit for work for several days. In fact some of the sufferers are not fully repovered yet. The return for four days gives 3470zs of amalgam from tbe blankets alone, and seeing that tbe boxes were completely cleared out before starting to crash, i this lp an improvement on (the previous week taking the time into consideration and the amount of gold which must undoubtedly remain in the boxes. The two first days of the week were occupied in making some necessary repairs. Tbe reef looks strong in all the stopes, and the stone now being raised is of a super* ior quality. In No 6 level, the reef in the face at present is fully three feet thick, showing gold freely. The winze from the intermediate to No 6 level is completed. Tbe battery is in fall swing, and working well, FIERY CROSS EXTENDED. The purchase of the Long Drive lease has been completed by tbe directors, the transfer being effected on to-day (21st May:) This lease must be a valuable acquisition to the company, and the direct tors must be complimented on tbe bar- i gain they have made, the price (£150) being extremely low.
