THE COMING ELEC TION.
-♦ [TO THE EDITOB INANGAHPA TIMES.] $ JBi — Ag one of those who attended Mr- Weston's meelw>? both in GreyT mouth and E.efton.ancf having the fullest means of knowing; what his opinions are upon the relative merits of the Hall aod Grey Governments, permit me to poiit out to the electors that Mr Weston's sentiments are clearly and nntnistakeably with the present Government. In reply to the gross misrepresentation of his views upon this point, which appeared in yesterday's Herald, I desire to point out that not a syllable can be pointed to in any of Mr Weston's address that could lead any impartial persons to the conclusion that he wotrld oppose Mr Hall's Government. On the contrary, does he not say in clear and definite terms that, if elected, he will go to the Premier and tell him that fo lons as his Government is prepared to do justice to the West Goast he (Mr Weston) will support him, Now here is a distinct pledge to the electors. It is in effect that if Mr Hall will hold out reason able hope of granting the concessions asked for by the railway promoters, he (\lr Weston). will support him. We all know that Mr Weston is ihorouahly earnest in his determination to see that railway agitation carried out to a successful issue and with this on his hands he, like a skilful general that he undoubtedly is, knows better tbnn to wed himself "to Mr Hall first, and ask for justice to the West Coast afterwards. The electors will see in this very fact a convincing proof of Mr Weston's thorough sincerity in the matter of the railway, and no one who has listened to, his speeches and watched his efforts throughout in Christchurch can be made to believe by the Herald's rascally mis* representations that he is otherwise than what his language represents him, a thorough and sincere friend to the West Coast, a supporter of the present Government, and the one true and determined advocate of our railway. — I am. &c, An Electoe, Keefton 14:h June, 1881.
