The work of constructing the tunnel in the present section is progressing most satisfactory, over two*tbirds of the con* tract distance having already been completed, and it is expected that the end of the month, or the beginning of the nest, will see the completion, of this section. The country is changing, and has lately consisted of the ordinary rocks mixed with pug and detached seams of quartz, in which, it is said, the color of gold can be seen. The water in the face of tbe tunnel has been increasing daily, and now forms a formidable stream, which, to some extent, retards operations. ORIENTAL (Devil's Cbeek.) The contractors for the construction of the 600 feet low level tunnel, have now accomplished 460 feet of the distance. Having encountered very bad country for a distance of about 100 feet midway of the tunnel, the work was for some time very onerous and slow, but a change having occurred in the nature of the ground, work is now progressing at greater speed, and the contract will pro* bably be finished in about two months time. The company have two men ems ployed repairing the workings in the upper level, where the timber is found to have given way:
