GOLDEN TREASURE.

The partial cleaning of top plates gave a result of 105ozs of amalgam out of 21 tons of stone from the south side of the winze, and a general^cleaning up will take place previous to the half* r early meeting of shareholders on the 30th/'inßtant. It will be remembered that mention was here made that at the time of opening oat from the shaft at 85 feet from the chamber, it was intended to keep the stone from the north and south side separate, so that a fair estimate could be mide as to the relative value of the stone. This plan has been carefully followed out, and the sfone has been crushed in separate lots, tbat coming from the south the result of which jis g'yen above, so far, having proved the richest. "Up till now the north stone, although not equal to the other side, has 'yet hitherto maintained the naluro of good average payable stone, Kith a good prospect ahead of improving as the work progresses. The general cleaning up nest week will probably disclose a larger percentage of gold in the .hoses than usual, as the gold seen in the stone appe&rs coarser than . hitherto, and consequently cannot pass through the gratings so freely as finer metal. The haulage of the stuff at present forms a considerable item in the cost of raising the stone, as it has to be done by an ordinary windlass at a rather great depth for that kind of con« trivanee. Thi<* lias answered so far passably well, but as the pajabfe nature of the bottom level is now established, and as, no doubt, more bands will be employed shortly stoping out, some easier method of winding will have to be adopted before long. This matter will probably form a subject of discussion at the forthcoming meeting.
