The winze, which hns been in course of construction from the old Independent level and near the boundary of the Energetic, is now completed, and a trial crushing of stone having proved satisfac tory, the company decided on erecting winding ge^r to facilitate operations. Some of the eastings end mountings are already on the ground, and the balance arrived in Reefton yesterday, when it was examined by experts and pronounced excellent. The plant consists of drum, pulleys, bearings, and connecting gear of an ingenious description, together with a great length of JJessamer steel rope to be used to communicate power from the water wheel at Crushington to the site of the winding plant at the workings, and thus a considerable distance from the" source of power. The erection of the new machinery will be pushed ahead with the usual vigour of the manager, to enable crushing to be resumed at an farly date;
