A motion to reduce the fee. outside of boronghs to £20 was lost by 37 to 18. Pjke, Weston, Levistam, and Wallis denounced the bill as having been reduced <o a perfect chaos through the indiscretion of the temperance section of the House, and intimated their determination to oppose it passing the third reading. Reeves concurred. He said he had from his boyhood been a consistent advocate of temperance, but be denounced the shape to which the Pill had been reduced. All that they heard in the lobbies was that the bill was a piece of confounded rot, and members said, ' Just let it go on an.J when iha proper time comes we will threw it out.' In its ordinal state it was passable, but since then it had become to be the child of many fathers, none of whom would recognise it. Speight moved that the rest of the bill should be passed p.p it stood, and that its opponents should re?t their strepgth on the third reading. Andrews moved that progress be reported. Hall opposed reporting progress in consequence of the threats used by the op» ponents of the measure. He was wil ling to keep them to their word, acd sit till 5 in the morning. Fox hoped that after the disgraceful scenes of the last two nights, members would support his motion to abolish BeU lamy's when he next brought it forward. Wallis denied that any members ores*

ent were not in a condition to temperately and fairly consider the Bill. Progress should be reported. Weston indignantly repudiated the aspersions cast on members by Fox. The Bill had become a scandal and should be thrown oat. He, although a young member, would not submit to such aspersions as those Fox had thrown on the House. Pyke also protested against the language used. Eeeves strongly condemned Fox's intemperate remarks, and the Premier's evident loss of temper. Ft x's remarks were a disgrace to the House, and the Premier should be ashamed of himself. The motion for reporting progress was lost on division by 32 to 18, A telegram had been received from the \gent«General relative to the actuaries' report on the Life Assurance Depart* ment.
