OUR MINES.

— — — *— MURRAY CREEK. (from or/u mining bepobteb.) THE WEEK. Satubday, July 16. NIL DESPERANDUM (Tributers.) The tributers did not scrape the tops plates to-dsy. A partial cleaning up will be made next Saturday, and the general oleaning up will take place at the end of the month, when returns similar to the last are expected. By that time the fund established out of the tribute money for the company itself will have in« creased sufficiently to bear a twopence dividend for shareholders.

GOLDEN POINT (Soldier's.) This company has for a considerable time been engaged in prospecting the ground held by them, and from which some two or three years ago some splen* did stone was obtained near the surface. A long tunnel has been driven to find the reef at a low level, bat so far without success. Ad 300 feet from the mouth of the tunnel, some signs were met with indicating stone in the vicinity, but as no reef was then expected in that portion of the mine no more notice was taken of the slight indication, and the work of the tunnel was carried on about 400 feet beyond this point without crossing any stone. Some cross-driving was also done, but with no better result. Eventually it occurred to the management to come back in the drive, and to explore that part of the country where the indications of quartz had been noticed at the point above stated. An uprise was conse* quently started, and during the week a body of stone was found to the one side of the uprise, which on examination proved gold-bearing. The value of the discovery cannot at present be estimated, as nothing more has been done to dis* clase the stone owing to the uprise not

being far enough advanced to ascertain the lay of the stone, but in the meanime shares in the company are in de* raand, and several parcels have changed hands within the last fow days.
