MURRAY CREEK.
I —■—•»■ ' NIL DESPEIIANLUXI (Tributers.) After a successful crushing the regular cleaning up was made yesterday, wi.h a result of 1320z fdwt retorted gold. Two hundred and fifty tons were treated since the last cleaning ap, and tbe yield is considered quite satisfactory arid up to expectations, although a pennyweight or thereabouts short pf the former averages. This is accounted for by the somewhat mullocky nature of the stone which was lately passed through the mill, but as the faces present a cleaner appearance now it is expected that an increase of a few pennyweights per ton will be realised from tbe next months' crushing. The reef i 3 showing a thick Dess of about 10 feet, and the men now employed (num bering eleven) cru'd easily keep an addi* tioml Ijve h~ad of stampers going, and it is probable tbat the crushig po^er will duringnpxt week be increased to that number. In such case the tributers will have to purchase an additional horse as one could hardly stand the continuous hard pull required B,t hauling up the stuff from the mine. The trilmte paid to the company out pf this crushing amounted at fourteen per cent to £71 4s by no means an insignificant sum of clear profit to the company, and as a credit balance bus beeu accumulated dur-
ing the past term of the tribute, it is probable that the directors will declare a dividend next week. While operations in this mine were carried on by the com* pany itself it was all along done at a loss, but ever since the mine was let on tribute it has proved remunerative to all parties interested. It would (has appear that in many instance.*, where the ground is poor, it would be advisable to have recourse to the system here adopted. Mines, which are now lying idle or worked without pofit might become remunerative under the economical manage* ment of trit liters. The system should recommend itself to companies, situated as that now under noti3e.
