Meetings were held last night in this city, and at various other places in England, at which speeches were made and resolutions passed expressing approval of the policy of the Government in regard to the Irish Lmd Bill. Other meetings with similar object in view are being or* ganised ot various towns. August 15. The Morning Post to-day in a leading article on the position of affairs in regard to the Irish Land Bill, largely approves of the opposition of the Marquis of Salisbury and his supporters, and amendments to the provisions of the measure, as brought about at their instigation in the Hou3e of Lords. Calcutta, August 15. Latest intelligence from Afghanistan is to the effect that Ayoub Khan is still in the neighbourhood of Csnda'uar, where he is recruiting his forces, and making requisitions upon the inhabitants of the district for supplies and arms, of which he stands much in need. His artillery is reported to be sufficiently strong, and fifteen of the Ameer s 3 cannons, captured at the battle of Karez Illyiar last month, are in consequence being sent on to Herat. Private telegrams from London report that a collision has occurred between the barque Clodinn, bonnd from Melbourne (left 6th April) to Liverpool with wheat, and barque Yarmouth. A man named Rogers, clerk, resident at Pyrmont ; a woman named Sarah Foster, Clarence' street, and another woman named Moett, living in Harbor«street. The patient in each case h«s been removed to the Quarantine Station. The case at Surrey Hills has also been quarantined. Thd doctois decided that the patient is suffering from small-pox. Brisbane. August 15. The detached squadron was sighted off Stradbrooko Island yesterday morning, and is expected to anchor in the river at 1 p.m. to day. The Right l?ev. G. H. Stanton, Bishop of Northern Queensland, is seriously ill, and is not expected to recover. (Special to Melboubne Age.) London, Au.-ust 7. Another plot to murder the Czar and his family has been discovered and frustrated, through the activity of the Eus* sian police. A movement is on foot for the purpose of developing the industrial resources of Ire'and. It is proposed to establish a company with a capital of £4000,000, to purchase a large quantity of the waste lands of the country, and reclaim and cuUivaie them. The prospectus of the company has been published, and the project has been favorably received.
