INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT
GREY.

Sir George Grey's new scheme of Locel Muddlement ' having become law, and having been fixed to come into operation on the ls^ of April, 1882, the oeremony of inaugurating the first President, Sir George Grey, took place accordingly on that day. The name of the Provincial District of Auckland had been changed to * Greysiana State,' and that of the city of Auckland to • Uptopiaton.'
The ceremony took place at Government House, which had been transferred to the State of Greysiana as a Presidency,
Sir George Grey was arrayed in robes of office, consisting of scarlet and gold, specially made for the occasion by Mr J. H. Dalton (tailor and habit maker, by appointment to the President under Letters Patent, vide advertisement in another column), with 9 cocked hat and feathers, and wore the new Oder of * St, Georgiana ' with the brilliant ' Star of Kawau.' The procession moved from Mount Eden Gaol to the Presidenoy in the following order :— President Grey, borne on a triumphal car, representing the Goddess of Liberty, and propelled by a gas-engine (Speight, maker). Goldsticks in Waiting— The Right Hon. P. Dignan and the Hon. P. Derby (with ebillalaghs). Beefeaters — The Honorables Dick Feltus and Drake. Husher of the Black Rod— Mr George H, Leaning, TJndertaker-in-Chief ; Lord High Admiral— Rear-Admiral McKenzie. Court Clown—Mr Speight. Generalissimo of the Forces— Major-Gen. Harris. Keeper of the Privy Seal— Mr Greenaway. Groom of the Stole— W. J. Hurst. Grand Fiddlestick— Late Lord Chief Jus# tice Fenton. Physician -in«Ordinary — Dr Wai! is. aouptaster — Mr Eire. The Ten Bcllo Virgins of Utopiation. wearing the Cross of Georgiana. The Twelve Wiso Men of Uptopiaton West, headed by Mr J. M. Shera, Mr Garrard, representing ' Tho Down Trodden Serfs.'
