Stdsef, September 7. The boat race between Laycock and Hush for £200' asida took place oq the Paramatta Kiver on the 2nd, weather being very fine and the river crowded with all manner of crafts, containing spectators. Both men looked in excellent condition, and made a mutual B fart, the bettting 2 to 1 on Laycock. They kept fairly together for over two hundred yards when Busb by a vigorous spurt shot about a length ahead, which be farther incresed ere long till at Breakfast Point quite, three lengths divided them. Laycock endeavored to overtake his opponent, bnt Rush responding to the spurt maintained his lead well. Near Gladsvtile, Laycock looked over his shoulders as if in fear for his chances which were furtber diminsbed by a fine spurt of Rush in response to encouraging cheers of the spectators. After Gladsville, Lay* cock never got nearer than three lengths, though towards the end Rush eased off at last, eight lengths ahead. Upon Laycock arriving at the winning post he claimed a foul, owing to a slight collison directly after the start but the umpire considered Laycock as much to blame as Rush.
