In the Supreme Court Lawrence Hayes, was found gailty of a rape on Margaret Gordon, the wife of a settler, at Hamilton, Waikato, and on the verdict being returned prisoner crused scene n Court by bis outcry; he ultimately swooned, and sentence had to be deferred. This day. This morning Lawrence Hayes was sentenced to five years, for rape. James Gaffney received seven years for unnatural offence. New Plymouth 6. With reference to the Natives selling their cattle and goods at a sacrifice, the the Taranaki Herald gives the following instance : Dingle, of New Plymouth, boughT twenty head of large cattle from the Natives for £40, or £2 per head for full crown cattle. Again, Oaptain Mars tyn, of Mania, and Humphrey Bayley bought seventy horses from the Natives for £50. Dunedin.
