MURRAY CREEK.
GOLDEN TREASURE. The full depth of tbe winze, intended to be worked with present appliances for winding, is now attained and instructions have been received to open ont jorth and south at this point which is 165 feet below the main level. Of this distance abont one half or 80 feet is through virgin country, wbich, judging from appearan* ces, will, after trial, add increased value ' to tbe mine. A cleaning up was made to* . day, resulting in 71o_s sdwt retorted gold > from 88 tons of stone, and is considered f satisfactory, with tbe probability of im» > provement at lowet levels. .The ex teni sion of the main level is still being p proceeded witb, and the present contract > is within 7 feet of completion, but no change has yet taken place in the ap* , pearance of the country. RESULT. , The gold-bearing stone whioh was bared while constructing the chamber, as already reported, has now been followed for a distance of 12 feet with improvod I prospects. | NIL DESPERANDUM. Tributers have been crushing stone , from the bottom block, and ezpeot greatly improved returns from tbe clean* ing np which will be made at the end of next week. Owing to tbe immediate proximity to tbe Keep«it.Dark mine, and the improved prospects of the property, considerable attention is being directed ' towards tbe " Nil,' and tbe shareholders are cow anxious to take over the mine themselves, witb a view to explore below the present level, where some good stone is known to exist under-foot. Negotia--1 tions are now pending between the com' pany and the., tributers with every ' prospfcet of muttac-l-p" aatigfactory arrangements being concluded. ENERGETIC, i Cross- cutting is still being continued ' with sis; men, and 6_ feet has been driver, with hopes of reaching stone in an ad» 1 ditional 20 feet. KEEP-IT-DARK. * Tbe timbering up is now completed, i and everything is in readiness to com* . mence raising from the present level to I tbe next by way of the winze already , existing for about two-thirds of the distance, and the bottom of which will be * reached in about 60 feet. A parcel of ' stone is being crashed, and will be > finished by Monday when about 120 tons 1 will have been milled, after which a 1 cleaning up will take place. The late valuable discoveries in this mine bave given a strong impetus to mining enter* prise in tbe vicinity, and a number of leases have been taken up on the supposed line of this reef, notably so across the river, when it is hoped that the con» tinnance of the lode may be picked up, as the slight and mere superficial circumstance of tbe river cutting the oourse of the reef oannot be taken to interpose any check to or to disturb tbe general condiI tions under which quartz reefs are found.
