UNITED ALPINE.
Sloping above the intermediate level north, and above No. 5 level north ; also in the soutn end of the mine. About ]sto 20 feet will yet require to be driven before reaching the shot of gold in the north block. Attention is being directed to a body of stone on. the surface which was uncovered a day or two since when running mullock down the fillingHin shaft. Very good prospects have been washed from the block, and the manager will now thoroughly prospect U, as it is supposed to be the rich run of stono worked in the upper levels in the early days of the mine, but which was completely lost owing to a heavy slip coming down. Should this prove to be the case, shaves in the claim will advance considerably in the market. The body of stone is about four feet in thickness, and is situated in what is known as fhe old Ex« celsior lease At No. 6 level, the contractors are driving pretty hard country but are making fair headway. About 20 feet has been driven since starting. Ihe air pipes recently erected in the tunnel keep tho drive well ventilated.
