MURRAY CREEK.
GOLDBN TREASURE. Work here was resumed during the week, but very little progress has been made since the holidays. This, however, is no exception on the field, but may be considered fairly applicable to the whole district. The festive season had for a time disarranged the normal condition of things, but which are now assuming ordinary activity. However, reverting again to the claim under notice, the manager reports that finding it inconvenient for the present to continue the extension of the bottom level owing to the reef in places narrowing into a compass less than the width of the drive, thus necessitating the removal of a quantity of debris, which although worthless for milling purposes, yet would be serviceable for filling in — he, to make room for the stuff, considered it expedient to open up some stopes above the chamber, where some filling in will presently be required, and where the surplus stuff can be stowed away to advantage, instead of being transported up a deep shaft and through a long tunnel. Crushing was started on Thursday on stone coming from these stopes, and a fair return may be anticipated judging from the show on the plates.
