(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.) j Christchurch, January 18. Typhoid fever has broken out at Loburn, North Canterbury. C. W. Turner, the well-known merchant, has offered thd brig Derwent, 221 tons, as a training ship for the Lyttelton Orphanage boys. Hart has been committed for trial for rape on a little girl, at KaipoL There was great excitement in Court over the trial, and the utmost sympathy is felt for the parents, who are well-known and respected in the district. The Commissioners appointed by the Chamber of Commerce to examine the proposed line of railway to the West ! Coast have handed in their report to the promoters. It is understood that the general tenor of the report is unfavorable to the floating of a public company for purposes of construction and working of the line, on the ground that the enterprise is not likely to prove remunerative for some years to come. ,'
