WEALTH OF NATIONS.
The winze under construction near the Energetic boundary is now down about 40 feet, or nearly one half of the intended depth. The stone appears of similar nature to that crushed from the immediate upper stopes, but is not of quite so large dimensions — this, however, may change at any moment, as good progress i 3 being made with the work, and consequently fresh ground is being pierced every day. It is reported that this company intend to enlarge the number of shares to 32,000, the present number being only 6500, and the expense of constructing progressive work as occasion requires has been felt to be very heavy on a limited number of shareholders. The enlargement of the proprietory must therefore be considered a very judicious step, which cannot fail eventually to produce satisfactory results. This is one of the oldest mines in the Inangahua district, and comprises at present an area of several of the adjoining claims having from time to time been merged into the old Wealth. About £100,000 has during the last 10 years been expended in this mine, and about £35,000 has been paid in dividends at the rate of over £5 per share.
