Thames. January 20, There was a tremendous flood here last night, and the water became a foot deep in the theatre, stopping the performance by Cary's Juvenile Company, the children being kept prisoners in the theatre till 12 o'clock. Christchurch, January 20. In consequence of a heavy southwester to-day it was impossible to begin the cricket match. The three days originally arranged will still be carried out, as the Englishmen have delayed their departure. Up to 10 o'clock this evening there was no appearance of the weather clearing up. Heavy rain has fallen incessantly since Thursday evening, and there are no signs of the weather clearing up. It is impossible for the cricket match to be played to-day. Auckland, January 20. The Hon. Mr Whittaker announced at the banquet to Tawhaio last evening, that he had that day accepted a tender for a bridge across the Waipa, connecting the King's settlement with Alexandra. Tawhaio has consented to drive the first pile. Dundedin, January 20. A member of the Waikouaiti rifles did some extraordinary shooting, whilst firing for the district prizes, he failed to hit the target in twenty-one shots. Wellington, January 21, A terrific north-east gale prevails here and at Nelson, accompanied with heavy floods at the latter place.
